The
Rocky Mountain RoughRiders U18 team played their second game of the day in the
NAPHL Showcase in Massachusetts and left the ice with a win in a shootout. The 8-4-0 RoughRiders faced off against the 8-3-1 Lansing Capitals with both teams jockeying for position in the NAPHL standings.
The RoughRiders scored the first goal of the game in the first period. The RoughRiders lead after one period of play 1-0. The Capitals scored the only two goals of the second period and held a 2-1 lead after two periods.
The RoughRiders scored the only goal of the third period in the closely contested game. With the game ending in regulation at 2-2, the NAPHL regular season rules have the teams going directly to a shootout.
Neither team scored on their first attempt in the shootout. The RoughRiders followed with three straight goals while the Capitals were stopped on each attempt. The Capitals out shot the RoughRiders 36-32 in the game. The RoughRiders improve their NAPHL record to 9-4-0 while the Capitals dropped to 8-3-2.
The RoughRiders responded well to the 1-0 loss early in the day to Orange County. The pace of this game was much faster than the first two games that the RoughRiders played in this Showcase.
