NAPHL Showcase Massachusetts: Jr. Sharks 3 RoughRiders 0

The Rock Mountain RoughRiders U18 team was shutout for the second time in the NAPHL Showcase in Massachusetts. The San Jose Jr. Sharks came into today's game with a 9-3-1 record and set to take on the RoughRiders who headed into the game with a 9-4-0 record. The game was evenly matched throughout except that the RoughRiders could not get a shot past the Jr. Sharks goalie.

The Sharks scored one goal in each period, the third period goal was an empty net score. The shots on goal were even for the game at 23-23. The RoughRiders were 0-5 on the power play while the Sharks converted one of their three power play opportunities.

This was a great opportunity for the RoughRiders to break through against a top notch team. They will have another chance later in the season against the Jr. Sharks.

The RoughRiders face the Milwaukee Jr. Admirals on Monday to close out play in the NAPHL Showcase. The Jr. Admirals currently have a record of 9-4-0 with one game left today against the Thunder AAA who has a record of 10-2-1.

NAPHL Showcase Massachusetts: RoughRiders 3 Lansing Capitals 2

The Rocky Mountain RoughRiders U18 team played their second game of the day in the NAPHL Showcase in Massachusetts and left the ice with a win in a shootout. The 8-4-0 RoughRiders faced off against the 8-3-1 Lansing Capitals with both teams jockeying for position in the NAPHL standings.

The RoughRiders scored the first goal of the game in the first period. The RoughRiders lead after one period of play 1-0. The Capitals scored the only two goals of the second period and held a 2-1 lead after two periods.

The RoughRiders scored the only goal of the third period in the closely contested game. With the game ending in regulation at 2-2, the NAPHL regular season rules have the teams going directly to a shootout.

Neither team scored on their first attempt in the shootout. The RoughRiders followed with three straight goals while the Capitals were stopped on each attempt. The Capitals out shot the RoughRiders 36-32 in the game. The RoughRiders improve their NAPHL record to 9-4-0 while the Capitals dropped to 8-3-2.

The RoughRiders responded well to the 1-0 loss early in the day to Orange County. The pace of this game was much faster than the first two games that the RoughRiders played in this Showcase.

NAPHL Showcase Massachusetts: Orange County 1 RoughRiders 0

The Rocky Mountain RoughRiders U18 hockey team gave up a goal with seven seconds left in the game against Orange County and lost 1-0 in NAPHL league play.. This was a game of missed opportunities throughout for the RoughRiders, who outplayed the Orange County team much of the game. The RoughRiders drop to 8-4-0 in league play and Orange County improves to 5-7-0.

The RoughRiders and Orange County looked as if they were headed for an overtime shootout until a  turnover with seven seconds left cost the RoughRiders the game. The RoughRiders had several opportunities towards the end of the third period by forcing the action with aggressive play. Unfortunately, that same aggressive play lead to the turnover setting up the game winning goal. Shots on goal were not entered on PointStreak.

The RoughRiders won't have a lot of time to think about this game. They play again this afternoon when they take on the 8-3-1 Lansing Capitals.
